Food Preparation and Nutrition - St Mary's and St John's CE School

Food Preparation and Nutrition

Vision

Our curriculum aims to introduce students to different cultures, cuisines and cooking methods. Students will be using all aspects of the kitchen with lessons occuring in the kitchen at Bennett House and Stamford Raffles. We hope that all students will come away with a love of food, and the ability to feed themselves well now and in later life.

The study of Food and Nutrition at SMSJ involves a sustained focus on food science, nutrition and culinary technique. We pride ourselves on the ways in which students can apply learning within the classroom to life outside of the classroom. Through their learning, students are shaped to deal with the world and those around them with empathy, sympathy and respect.

Wisdom

By being exposed to a range of dishes students will be able to make wise food choices.

Service

The Food & Nutrition curriculum aims to serve students throughout their lives and to explore the skills of hospitality and food service.

Hope

The Food & Nutrition department hope that through an ambitious curriculum students will develop an understanding of issues such as inequality, food poverty and sustainability. The Food & Nutrition department aspires towards creating a  hopeful future for all through teaching students how to feed themselves with a focus on good nutrition and good health.
