Psychology

Vision

Studying Psychology at SMSJ enables students to know and understand themselves and others. This results in them becoming balanced stakeholders of the world around them as students are encouraged to explore why humans think and behave in the way they do.

As a social science, it is the scientific study of behaviour and the human mind. At A Level, we study how people interact, how we change and develop, how we think, and how we decide what is normal, working towards the AQA A Level in Psychology qualification at SMSJ. In Years 12 and 13, students develop their ability to think critically and analytically, further develop both their oral and communication skills and their ability to plan statistically viable experiments. Topics include cognitive psychology, social psychology and developmental psychology. These will be applied to real life situations. In this way students are directed to engage with Psychology as a social science that draws from many disciplines.
