Computing - St Mary's and St John's CE School

Computing

SMSJ aims to become a centre of digital excellence, with a focus on Computing as one of our core specialisms. This is because we believe that it is part of our role to ensure that our students are prepared for life beyond school, and are adequately equipped to compete both in the workplace and institutes of higher education.

One of the benefits of being an all-through school is that we have been able to design our curriculum from the top down, ensuring students have the knowledge they need to succeed at A-Level and beyond.

GSCE Computer Science sets students up for a seamless transition into A-Level Computer Science, which will cover much of the same content at a more advanced level. Computer Science will prepare students to study a Bachelor of Science at University in any of the following subjects, among others:
  • Business Information Systems
  • Computer and Network Engineering
  • Computer Science and Software Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Multimedia Computing
  • Games Design and Programming

Potential career paths include but are not limited to:
  • Website Developer • Database administrator
  • Games developer • Information systems manager
  • IT consultant • Multimedia programmer
  • Network engineer • Virtual Reality developer
  • Systems developer • Artificial Intelligence developer
