Secondary Admissions

ADMISSION TO YEAR 7 — SEPTEMBER 2022 ENTRY

We plan to admit 180 pupils into Year 7 in September 2022. To be considered for a place, applications must be submitted electronically, via your Local Authority (BarnetBrentCamdenHertfordshire) by 31st October 2021.

All applicants are required to sit the (non-verbal reasoning) Banding Test on Saturday 27th November 2021. Further details will be made available closer to the date.

SMSJ is not a selective school, this is not an entrance exam: the test only serves admissions (banding) purposes.

Please read the admissions criteria for secondary admission for further information about admission to the school.

Applicants who are applying for a Foundation Place should also complete the school’s Supplementary Information Form so that the Governors on the Admission Committee can consider the application fully. The SIF must be returned to the school by 31st October 2021.

Due to Covid-19 the church attendance requirement has changed, reflecting that places of worship have been closed during the lockdown period. The updated form, with the section approved by the School Adjudicator, can be found below.

National Offer Day (school offers sent to applicants by their local authority): 1st March 2022.

Application Process for a Performing Arts Scholarship place in Year 7

September 2022 Entry

Up to 18 Performing Arts Scholarships will be offered each year to students who show a particular aptitude in one of the Performing Arts. All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their Aptitude Test before the closing date for secondary applications on 31st October 2021.

When a scholarship is offered it is on the understanding that students will take part in extra-curricular activities (both sacred and secular), be ambassadors for the Performing Arts, and behave in an exemplary manner around the school at all times. In KS4, Scholars are expected to take their specialist subject as a GCSE option.

Applicants for Performing Arts Scholarship places who are not offered a place under this category will automatically be considered for other places at SMSJ according to any other category that may apply. Pupils who are already on roll at St Mary’s and St John’s School are also welcome to apply to become Performing Art Scholars.
