Application process for a Year 7 place

September 2018 entry

The closing date for Secondary place applications is Tuesday 31st October 2017

If you have applied for a place at SMSJ, the banding test will take place on Saturday 25th November. Please see details below:

Banding Test - Saturday 25th November 2017

All applicants applying for a Year 7 place in September 2018 MUST attend the Banding Test Day

At SMSJ we want a balanced intake which is representative of the abilities of those applying for a place.  To achieve this, we operate a banding process.  Every pupil is required to take the banding test which is in the form of a non-verbal reasoning test.  The only exception is for children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan who will be assessed from their statement data.

25% of applicants are placed in each of the four ability bands, depending on where each pupil is placed in relation to the overall ability of those applying for places in that year.  The purpose of these tests is solely to place pupils in the right ability band.  The test result does not determine who is offered or refused a place.  There are 45 places available for each band.

If you have not yet applied and would like to submit a form, please contact your Local Authority.  Your application will be classified as a late application.

The outcome of all applications will be issued by your Local Authority on Thursday 1st March 2018

The test will take place at:-

SMSJ, Upper School, Stamford Raffles Campus, Downage, Hendon, NW4 1AB
