Special Educational Needs

The Primary school has a qualified teacher as a SEN Co-ordinator (SENCO).  The Co-ordinator, alongside class teachers, identifies a child’s particular needs and liaises closely with parents and staff at school.  Local Authority specialists may be consulted as and when necessary.

The SENCO also co-ordinates class support for those children identified as having SEN and works closely with the team of support teachers and teaching assistants to provide appropriate strategies and programmes of learning.

SEN resources are constantly reviewed and updated to help all pupils access the full curriculum.   SMSJ aims to offer the best possible support for all children with special educational needs within the context of the school’s commitment to full inclusion and the school’s budget.
