Student Wellbeing

Academic achievement is an overriding principle of the Sixth Form journey, but it is paramount that our students’ wellbeing is never neglected during this time. Here at SMSJ, we have fostered a learning environment in which mental and physical wellbeing is prioritised at each stage in our students’ journey.

We offer an extensive range of resources throughout the 2 year course, to help equip students with the tools and understanding required to navigate this stage in their lives. Students will be educated in methods for coping with exam stress or anxiety, and will be fully aware of the steps to take in order to seek help.

Each student will be assigned a Pastoral Academic Mentor, who will be there throughout the course of their studies to be a primary port of call for all things academic, wellbeing and personal. Students will also be supported by the Leadership team and their subject teachers.

We believe it is of the upmost importance, in addition to students, that parents feel able to communicate openly and honestly regarding their child’s emotional and mental wellbeing. We welcome and encourage parents to raise concerns as soon as they arise, and will provide extensive support during this time.

We are fortunate to have an in-house Counsellor, Mrs. Castango, available for students to speak with during drop in sessions weekly. They are able to freely discuss concerns, and seek advice in a calm and welcoming environment.
