Extra Curricular Activities

At SMSJ we passionately believe that learning extends well beyond the classroom. In addition to an academically rigorous, challenging and thought provoking curriculum we also offer a range of extra-curricular activities which take place at lunchtime and after school. These activities help students to learn new skills, practice existing ones as well as forge new friendships and develop their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

We have a diverse range of clubs on offer which reflect our specialism in the Performing Arts as well as sporting activities, the Humanities, books, film, cooking and chess and a homework club where pupils will be supported in their learning.

In addition we will be running special short courses and clubs. It has always been our intention to reflect pupils’ interests and if pupils want to lead a particular group we will do our best to facilitate this.

We expect all our pupils to take part in at least one activity and we anticipate that pupils will want to join more than one club. If pupils make the most of these opportunities and choose to get involved they will find their time with us much more rewarding. Staff in charge of clubs will decide how best to allocate places and this will be communicated to pupils via assemblies and in registration. Some activities will have limited spaces.

We want young people to thrive by being part of something special, which is why we offer many clubs, projects and activities beyond the curriculum.
