Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) We actively encourage all our pupils to gain an understanding of themselves and others.  We aim to help them to prepare for life within our school community and in the wider world.  It is important that children’s emotional health is nurtured in order for other curriculum areas to be enhanced.

We follow the non-statutory guidance in the national curriculum and supplement this with a programme called SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning).  SEAL topics are developed over a half term and all year groups follow the same theme thus enabling a cohesive whole school approach.

In the Foundation Stage and KS1, children will learn how to stay safe and healthy and also how to develop their interpersonal skills. They will be taught the importance of diet and exercise and the risks involved with the use of harmful substances.

Pupils in KS2 will experience learning about using money wisely, healthy lifestyles, choosing careers, political parties, democracy and dictatorship.

In addition to this we include a sex education and relationships programme for those pupils in Years 5 and 6.  This allows the children to understand the changes which will begin to take place in their bodies and gives them an opportunity to discuss any issues which may be causing them a concern or some confusion.

Parents are invited to view the materials beforehand and have the right to withdraw their child from the sex education programme.
